Pennsylvania Arts
Interactive Tool
Research to ConceptThis self-initiated project began with a serendipitous inquiry into the history of Pittsburgh, which quickly expanded into a broader exploration of Pennsylvania. My online research led to several key insights:
- The city's geography is defined by the confluence of three rivers and its many bridges.
- The collapse of the steel industry led to a lasting impact of population decline and vacant properties.
- The state's rich, brutalist-influenced visual history now houses vital art spaces.
I also discovered that museums today face significant challenges, from funding to audience engagement. In response, I designed a cultural initiative centered on a flexible identity system. This system fosters information exchange between museums and helps shed light on overlooked galleries–particularly those repurposed from historical buildings.
By creating a unified network, I aim to strengthen Pennsylvania's cultural ecosystem and highlight transformative spaces like the Mattress Factory Museum, which embody a dialogue between past, art, and technology.
PArts Visual Generator
I built a typographic toolkit. At its heart is a modular grid that generates a spectrum of permissible type variables. This empowers local partners to be co-creators, adapting the system to their needs while the core grid mathematically enforces identity cohesion.
PArts SubcategoryPushing the PArts identity further, I created a system for its "PPP" symposium, which focuses on media arts. The design draws direct inspiration from RGB color models. This approach resulted in a versatile and scalable system that maintains cohesion across a wide spectrum of applications.
